“The Nature of Animal Healing” by Martin Goldstein D.V.M.

I originally noticed this book several years ago when Oprah recommended it, and now I’d like to additionally offer the Dog Momma badge of approval!

Even with the best advisors – Dog Momma, your vet, your trusted friends – you should still get a handle on health matters yourself. This goes for caring for yourself, as well as those you’re responsible for. This book provides an excellent overview.

The author is a veterinarian, and I love how he starts the book, explaining his own journey and realization that most health issues can be cured holistically. Today’s American culture lends itself far too quickly to convenient foods, medications, surgeries – various “Easy Buttons”, if you will. Not only did his book teach me a lot; it inspired me to find a vet locally that has similar experience and philosophies.

Some parts are conversational; others are more technical with scientific facts and remedies. A large part of the book covers major ailments, one at a time, and what you can do about them. I was very moved by the explanation of food; the advice really resonated for me. There is a whole chapter “It All Starts With Food”.

Overall, this is a very good book that I enjoyed and will surely go back to when needed. As a Dog Momma or Poppa, do your homework and check this one out!
