“The Dog Book” by Mary Goodbody

Review by Pam Marr Rybinski

There is little new in this darling 39-page book. It is a tasteful collection of canine this and that, printed in Singapore in 1995. It offers a short history of dogs, a synopsis of breeds, some amazing dog stories, and classic tidbits and quotes by such as Rudyard Kipling and Edith Wharton. As engaging as these bits of information are, like the true tale of Prince, who disappeared from London in 1914 and appeared two weeks later in Armentieres, France, the illustrations by the likes of Maud Earl and Thomas Blinds may capture reader interest even more.

This almost 5”X 7” gem is undersized enough to fit in a small bag or a nightstand drawer, and can prove a welcome reminder of what is good and joyous in the world.
