Being a Pen Pal

One of the most fulfilling aspects of my life is volunteering at a local pet rescue. Helping dogs survive the wait and prepare for their forever homes feels very rewarding and meaningful.

I have been volunteering for CompAnimals Pet Rescue for over four years. I stick with CompAnimals for several reasons. True to my first admiration of this organization, they apply judgment and flexibility in socializing dogs and selecting forever homes. Several of my Pen Pals – Domino, Cupcake, Mako to name a few – benefited from CompAnimals finding them dog friends through experienced, supervised trials. These doggie friendships were extremely fulfilling to my Pen Pals while they lived in the shelter. I also stay with CompAnimals out of loyalty. We have gotten to know each other, and we’ve done some great things together!

I have enjoyed diverse roles for CompAnimals. My most consistent role is Pen Pal. This means I visit one dog once a week until he/she gets a home. We usually spend 2-3 hours together. We do all kinds of things, sometimes just the two of us, sometimes with guests (human and/or canine). My current Pen Pal is Domino and I hope you’ll consider adopting him!
