“Last Dog on the Hill, The Extraordinary Life of Lou” by Steve Duno

Review by Pam Marr Rybinski

Here is a one-of-a-kind book about an extraordinary feral Rottweiler/shepherd mix puppy and the couple who took him in from the wilds of Mendocino County, California. It is a both a heart-warming tale and a treatise of training. Love and mutual respect forge a remarkable bond between man and dog.

It is unclear how much training the man gave the dog, and how much the dog gave the man. What is clear is that together they often did the impossible, and as a team saved the lives of many troubled dogs through hands and paws-on training.

Steve Duno is now “a veteran pet behaviorist” who “has trained thousands of dogs and a good number of cats.” Read his semi-autobiography to learn about super-dog Lou, and to learn a ton of training tips quite painlessly.
