“The Incredible Journey” by Sheila Burnford

Review by Pam Rybinski
The holidays are a time of remembrance: family, friends, traditions, and favorite childhood books. One such literary treasure is “The Incredible Journey,” a tale of love and loyalty, stamina and stubbornness. Key characters are an aged English bull terrier, a young Labrador retriever, and a vocal Siamese cat. First published in 1960, it portrays the northwestern Canada wilderness seen by the unlikely trio who bond together to elude death. For years it has been a “must read” for sophisticated elementary or middle school readers and their supportive families. It’s a short tear-jerking read, worth looking for if you’ve somehow missed it.
