“The Backward Bird Dog” by Bill Wallace

Review by Pam Rybinski

This one’s for the kids, or the very young at heart. Illustrations by David Slonim are more suited to an eight or ten-year old reader than an adult, but the plot-line is unusual and captivating. The persona is the canine, J.C. himself, interpreting the world from the perspective of a puppy growing up with human hunting people. He tries and tries to be the best bird-dog ever, but everyone misunderstands him.  If you feel like a really quick read, try this book. Bill Wallace has written an entire series of books about dogs that may become favorites of the young people in your life.
